Florida State University is entering a critical phase of its coaching search following the departure of head coach Mike Norvell. The athletic department must secure a new leader who can provide immediate stability and modern roster management to keep the program competitive within the Atlantic Coast Conference. The search has expanded to include both established head coaches and top-tier coordinators looking for a step up.

Jake Dickert is considered a premier candidate for the head coaching vacancy. He posted a 15-5 record over the last two seasons at Wake Forest. A move to Tallahassee would offer Dickert greater resources, including stronger name, image, and likeness support and enhanced recruiting reach compared to his current position in Winston-Salem.

Jimbo Fisher, who previously won a national championship with the Seminoles, is also under consideration. Fisher has reportedly been speaking with donors to understand current NIL structures and transfer portal dynamics. His return would bring a coach who already knows how to win in Tallahassee, though his past stint there ended with mixed reactions.

Other head coaching targets include Manny Diaz, a Florida State alumnus who recently led Duke to an ACC title and consistent nine-win seasons. Deion Sanders, a Seminole legend, offers significant recruiting influence despite recent challenges at Colorado. Jason Eck, known for building winning programs with limited resources at Idaho and New Mexico, is viewed as a rising option who could address personnel shortcomings.

Kenny Dillingham remains an appealing choice given his familiarity with the program. He previously served as offensive coordinator under Norvell and chose to stay at Arizona State over other offers. Rhett Lashlee, who has built a strong squad at SMU, is another target, though moving him away from Dallas would present challenges due to his strong infrastructure there.

The search also includes high-impact coordinators who may be ready for the head coaching role. Buster Faulkner, who moved from Georgia Tech to Florida, is known as one of the best offensive play-callers in college football. Blake Baker engineered a defensive turnaround at LSU using aggressive schemes, while Shannon Dawson guided a top-tier offense at Miami that blended air-raid concepts with a physical ground game.

Bryant Haines, who won the Broyles Award as the nation's top coordinator after crafting a dominant defense at Indiana, is also on the radar. His disciplined 4-3 scheme limits explosive plays, making him a fast-rising candidate for a Power Four head coaching position.
