Flávio Bolsonaro spoke at a Conservative Political Action Conference dinner at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach on Thursday night.
The appearance came one day after the Brazilian court ordered him to hand over his passports. He was involved in a money-laundering investigation that began after he lost the presidential election on October 25.
Bolsonaro conceded to incumbent president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the runoff vote. Lula won by an estimated four million votes. Bolsonaro claimed the election was rigged and declined to acknowledge the result. His own party recognized Lula’s victory.
The speaker list for the CPAC Mar-a-Lago Gala included Byron Donalds and Senator Rick Scott. CPAC confirmed Bolsonaro’s participation in a post on X on Thursday afternoon. The organization also listed him on its website.
Bolsonaro is the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. Jair Bolsonaro is currently in prison after a conviction for attempting to overthrow the government. The former leader was a close ally of President Donald Trump. The U.S. government reportedly tried to influence the election in Bolsonaro’s favor.
According to flight records reviewed by the Miami New Times, Bolsonaro flew to South Florida on October 28. He took a covert route through Argentina. This move occurred two days after the court order for his passport surrender.
The Brazilian government is investigating Bolsonaro for alleged corruption and money laundering. The case is connected to a large banking fraud and a biopic about his father that Bolsonaro produced.
