Seven young professionals received recognition this week from the Bellingham Regional Chamber of Commerce. The group was selected for the Top 7 Under 40 program. They will be honored alongside other business leaders at the Chamber's annual Awards Dinner in the coming weeks.
The event is scheduled to take place in a few weeks. It will serve as a venue to celebrate individuals and companies that contribute to the local economy. Guy Occhiogrosso, the Chamber's President and CEO, posted the announcement on Wednesday, November 4.
Occhiogrosso used the announcement to address the current economic climate in the region. He stated that many local businesses face difficult choices as operating costs rise. For small firms, each additional expense or regulatory requirement can determine whether they hire new staff, expand operations, or remain open.
The Chamber's leadership suggests that the cumulative impact of local decisions often outweighs any single policy change. Occhiogrosso noted that decisions regarding housing, taxation, permitting, and workforce development have direct consequences for employers and employees. He argued that a community cannot claim to value local businesses while making it harder for them to operate.
He clarified that being business friendly does not mean exempting companies from regulations or responsibilities. Instead, it means recognizing businesses as partners in community building. The Chamber urges elected leaders, both new and returning, to engage with the business community as the current election season concludes.
Occhiogrosso emphasized that the responsibility for creating favorable business conditions belongs to all community members. He stated that celebrating current success stories requires ensuring opportunities exist for future leaders. The Chamber aims to support the next generation of businesses by addressing the rising cost pressures that influence daily operations.
