Residents in Miami-Dade and Broward counties can attend nine live music events at no cost this month. The schedule runs from November 5 through November 21 and includes performances at the Miami Beach Bandshell, Las Rosas, and Revelry in Pompano Beach. Attendees will hear a mix of bass-heavy house, post-punk, reggae, jazz, and classical compositions. Most venues require an RSVP or online ticket, though several events are open to the general public upon arrival.
The first event takes place on November 5 at ZeyZey in Miami. Brooklyn-based DJ Rae Sada and Major Lazer member Ape Drums will play a back-to-back set of house and Caribbean rhythms. The show is limited to adults 21 and older. On November 11, Tennessee trio Optic Sink performs synth-driven post-punk at Las Rosas, with local bands Cypher, Ember, and The Boy Who Wore Jade providing support.
Pompano Beach hosts a Radiohead tribute by the band Hearing Damage on November 14 at Revelry. The group plays songs from the 2009 Thom Yorke catalog. A few days later, on November 16, Blackbird Ordinary in Miami hosts the Jamrock Cruise after-party. Djs Madout, Spex, and Bambino will play dancehall and reggae from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Jazz and classical fans have two options in late November. On November 19, Abstract Citizen performs at the Miami Beach Bandshell. Guitarist Aaron Lebos leads the quartet, which includes bassist Marty Quinn, vocalist Vania Junco, and drummer Lucas Apostoleris. The group is joined by Black Nimbus and visual artists. On November 21, the New World Symphony presents violinist James Ehnes at Soundscape Park in Miami Beach. Ehnes will perform two of Sergei Prokofiev's violin concertos.
The Hollywood Real Jazz Festival occupies two days at Young Circle. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on November 20 and 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on November 21. Bassist Ron Carter headlines the lineup. He has participated in more than 2,000 recording sessions, a record for jazz bassists. Vocalist Kandaze Springs and vibraphonist Warren Wolf also appear. On the same day, The Mighty Flea Circus performs rockabilly and surf rock at Revelry in Pompano Beach.
The month concludes with a Thanksgiving-themed roller disco on November 17 at the Miami Beach Bandshell. The Rhythm Foundation hosts the event, which features music from Lotusoph and Angie Antonela. Skates are free for Miami Beach residents and cost $10 for other attendees. The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and welcomes all ages.
