Apple will distribute iOS 27.2 to iPhone users next week.
This update serves as the primary software release for the current device lineup. The previous version, iOS 27.1, was restricted to the iPhone Duo model.
The most visible change occurs in the FaceTime application. The company is extending its Dual Capture feature to group calls. This capability, introduced in iOS 27, allows users to view both the front and rear cameras simultaneously. Previously, this function worked only during one-on-one video chats. With the new update, tapping the Flip button during a group session activates the rear camera while keeping the front camera feed active.
Apple also restructured the Home tab in the Apple Podcasts app. The existing Up Next queue is being divided into two distinct sections. The top section, labeled New Episodes, displays the latest releases from shows the user follows. A new section called Continue Playing appears directly below it. This area aggregates episodes that a listener has started but not yet finished. A 9to5Mac writer, who previously described the old interface as confusing, tested the beta version and called the new layout a major improvement for tracking listening history.
The Apple TV app gains user profiles for the first time on iPhone. This feature had long been available on Apple TV hardware but was previously absent on the mobile operating system. Upon installing the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen. They can disable this prompt if they prefer not to use it. When active, the app tailors content recommendations to the selected viewer. If a child’s profile is active, the app restricts the library to age-appropriate Apple series and movies. This setup prevents children from accessing unsuitable material on a parent’s device while keeping the adult’s personal viewing queue separate.
The company reports that iOS 27.2 includes new features in six iPhone apps in total.
