The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party will take place in Atlanta on Saturday, marking the first time the Georgia and Florida rivalry has been played outside of Jacksonville. The move stems from renovations at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, which have forced the teams to relocate the game to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
A 50-50 split of tickets for the event aims to recreate the neutral site experience that has defined the matchup for decades. Florida head coach Jon Sumrall noted that while the city is not the traditional backdrop for this game, the unique environment offers a different dynamic for his players. He described the setting as exciting because it differs from a standard Southeastern Conference contest.
Georgia enters the game ranked third in the AP Top 25, while Florida sits at 17. The Bulldogs are 8-2 against Florida under head coach Kirby Smart, including a five-game winning streak. Smart stated that the venue change does not significantly alter the preparation for the teams, though it provides a unique experience for the fans attending the game at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton seeks a bounce-back performance after a last-second 27-24 loss to Auburn, a defeat that dropped Georgia from the top spot in the national rankings. Stockton threw two interceptions and fumbled in the final minutes of that game. Center Drew Bobo said Stockton has remained consistent in his preparation and effort since the loss, maintaining his usual routine.
Florida running back Jadan Baugh, an Atlanta native, views the location as a personal homecoming. Baugh leads the SEC with 13 rushing touchdowns and has accumulated 763 yards on the season. He said he is trying to keep his emotions in check, recalling his father's advice that getting too excited can lead to over-preparing for a specific moment.
The game will be a test for both teams' rushing attacks and defenses. Florida ranks fourth in the conference with 194.3 rushing yards per game, while Georgia is second in run defense, allowing 91.4 yards per game. Smart said his staff has shown players video clips of Baugh since the start of the year to emphasize the importance of tackling the specific player they face.
Florida quarterback Aaron Philo is expected to return to the starting lineup after missing the win over Texas with a shoulder injury. Head coach Jon Sumrall has given both Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. repetitions with the first-team offense. A win for Florida would give the Gators back-to-back victories over top 10 opponents, a feat that has only happened three times in school history.
The rivalry game is scheduled to be played in Tampa Bay in 2027. For now, the focus is on Saturday’s contest in Atlanta, where both teams aim to secure a vital win in their SEC championship pursuits.
