One person died and three others were injured in a shooting that occurred during a youth football championship game Sunday night.
The incident took place at Madison Senior High School in Illinois around 9:50 p.m. The game was not organized by the school but was being held on its grounds.
Emergency responders transported the three injured victims to local hospitals. The fourth victim died at the scene of the shooting.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis is currently investigating the incident. Lt. Andrew Pierson, the squad’s public information officer, appealed to the community for help. "Someone in that crowd saw something, recorded something, or has heard something since. We are asking those people to come forward," Pierson said. He added that even small details, such as a single photo or a short video, could move the investigation forward.
The Madison School District canceled classes for Monday and plans to resume instruction on Wednesday. In a statement, the district expressed deep sadness over the violence. Although the game was not sponsored by the district, officials noted that the incident affects the entire school community. Counseling and support services will be available to students and staff.
