Roseville High School defeated Coon Rapids 24-14 on Friday night to win the Metro Maroon subdistrict championship in Class 6A.
The victory ended an eight year title drought for the Raiders. The team finished the regular season with a 4-4 record, their best performance since 2017. Senior quarterback Chase Browning led the offense with 162 passing yards and three touchdown passes.
Browning described the emotional impact of the win. “It’s an amazing feeling,” Browning said. “I don’t even have words for it. We’ve all worked so hard. It’s great to see it finally paying off.”
Other results shaped the playoff seeding picture across the East Metro. Centennial defeated Anoka 38-6, a result that likely secures the Cougars a No. 3 seed. Anoka’s six points marked the first time this season the team was held to single digits. Forest Lake’s Mack Jurkovich rushed for 245 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-13 win over Stillwater, locking up a No. 2 seed and finishing the year with 1,600 rushing yards.
Mounds View claimed the Metro East subdistrict title with a 22-16 victory over White Bear Lake. Quarterback Tanner Jude scored on a one yard run with 65 seconds remaining to take the lead. A successful two point conversion extended the margin to six points. Preston Johnson intercepted a pass on the next possession to seal the result. The Mounds View defense limited White Bear Lake quarterback Wyatt Stachowiak to six completions on 24 attempts.
East Ridge defeated rival Woodbury 42-31. Logan Tretter ran for two touchdowns, and Elias Mather returned an interception for a late score. Park beat Eastview 18-10, with junior receiver Manny Vargas scoring twice. Vargas caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt 75 yards for a score.
Lakeville South defeated Rosemount 17-14 on a last second field goal. Sophomore kicker Dylan Nelson kicked a 36 yard attempt with one second remaining to complete the upset. The result complicates the seeding landscape in the south metro for the upcoming Class 6A playoffs.
