Alachua County prosecutors charged a 35-year-old woman with child neglect and possession of controlled substances after deputies discovered drugs within reach of a sleeping six-year-old.
The arrests occurred in Gainesville on the morning of November 3, following a disturbance call received by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 10:30 p.m. on November 2. A 911 caller reported a woman screaming that she could not breathe, leading officers to the southeast side of Motel 6 on West Newberry Road.
Deputies located Keyangelo Davon Thorns, 31, outside a room. He stated that his girlfriend, Brianna Brenea Clark, 35, and her six-year-old son were inside. Clark admitted to placing the call but claimed nothing had happened. Upon entering, officers found drugs and paraphernalia next to the bed, in an open cubby within arm’s reach of the child.
A specific can of Altoids mints contained cocaine. Clark stated she would take responsibility for the items. She was arrested on a warrant for violating probation. During the process, she reportedly resisted entry into the patrol vehicle and attempted to kick deputies. She has three felony and four misdemeanor convictions on her record, all non-violent.
Thorns is a federal registered sex offender. When asked if he was permitted to be unsupervised with children, he answered no. Records show he checked into the motel on October 17 but failed to update his registered address, a requirement for sex offenders. His presence in the room was indicated by luggage and clothing left behind. He admitted to living there for approximately two weeks.
This is not Thorns’ first legal issue regarding his address. He was arrested in May 2026 for failing to update his information and accepted a deferred prosecution agreement. That agreement required him to refrain from breaking the law for about two more weeks to drop the charges. He is now charged with failure to report a change of address. He has nine state felony convictions and three state misdemeanor convictions, all non-violent.
Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail for Clark at $85,000 on the new charges. She is being held without bail until her probation violation is resolved. Her charges include child neglect without serious bodily harm, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and resisting an officer without violence. A separate charge of child abuse has been filed, though the report is not yet available.
Bail for Thorns was set at $50,000. The Department of Children and Families was notified due to the presence of drugs in the room. Alachua County Sheriff’s Office personnel took initial custody of the child. All charges are based on arrest reports and court records and remain accusations until proven in court.
