Apple TV subscribers in the United States began receiving Formula 1 coverage with Dolby Atmos audio on Friday, October 23.
The United States Grand Prix serves as the inaugural event to use this spatial audio format for the sport. Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier this month. The upgrade applies to all race weekend content, including team radio, commentary, and engine sounds. Apple states the technology is designed to place viewers at the center of the action. The service pairs the audio with Dolby Vision for enhanced color and clarity.
The audio upgrade coincides with the ongoing race weekend at the Circuit of The Americas. First practice has already concluded. Remaining sessions are scheduled for the rest of the week. Practice 2 occurs at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, October 23. Practice 3 is set for 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 24. Qualifying follows at 5 p.m. ET on the same day. The main race is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.
Apple is hosting a live screening of Sunday's race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The location recently welcomed Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien. Their visit marked the launch of the iPhone Duo on Friday.
The company also updated Apple Maps to support the event. It expanded its Detailed City Experience to Austin. The update includes a specific map of the Circuit of The Americas. The map features turn numbers, grandstands, and 3D landmarks to assist fans with navigation.
Apple TV is priced at $14.99 per month. Customers can also access the service through the Apple One bundle. The platform currently streams series such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
