BYD plans to unveil its newest ultra-luxury electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates this month. Yangwang general manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed the location for the global launch, marking a shift from the company’s usual strategy of debuting vehicles in China first. No specific date has been announced.
The car is positioned as BYD’s largest and most expensive model. Its design mirrors the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Local reports indicate the vehicle measures approximately 5,500 millimeters in length. This entry targets competitors such as Bentley and Rolls-Royce, a distinct departure for a brand known for budget options like the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China.
Yangwang serves as the technology showcase for BYD. Previous models utilized the quad-motor e4 platform, which produces 1,300 horsepower, along with the DiSus-X intelligent body control system. This system allows vehicles to perform maneuvers such as jumping and driving on three wheels. The new sedan is expected to introduce the company’s first solid-state batteries.
Hu Xiaoqing shared images of the disguised prototype last month. The vehicle featured rear-hinged coach doors, a configuration not previously seen on a BYD model. It was also photographed at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting compatibility with megawatt-level charging infrastructure. Executive general manager Zheng Yu described the technology as "unprecedented disruptive technology" without providing further details.
Pricing for the new sedan is rumored to start around 2 million yuan. That amount translates to approximately $300,000. This price point significantly exceeds the brand's current top-tier offerings. The U7 electric sedan currently starts at 658,000 yuan, or about $98,000.
The U8L plug-in hybrid SUV holds the record as Yangwang’s most expensive mass-produced vehicle. It starts at 1.45 million yuan, roughly $217,000. The U9 electric super-coupe also occupies the upper end of the brand's lineup. The new sedan will sit above these models in both price and luxury tier.
BYD has expanded its portfolio in recent years to include entry-level EVs, three-row SUVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars. The corporate structure includes three sub-brands: Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang. These operate alongside the Dynasty and Ocean families under the main BYD name.
