Jesus Owono, the goalkeeper for FC Andorra, released a personal statement on Wednesday to address the death of Jesus De Miguel, a striker for Tenerife. The Andorra keeper described the time since their on-field collision as the most challenging period of his life. He admitted that he struggled to find the right words to process the events and acknowledged that many questions would need answering in the coming days.

The incident happened on Monday during a match between the two clubs. Owono and De Miguel collided on the pitch. De Miguel was transported to a hospital and placed in intensive care. The Spanish striker passed away on Tuesday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest. In his message, Owono stated he would face whatever comes with respect but emphasized that his primary focus remained on his late opponent and the shared pain of the situation. He closed the statement by wishing De Miguel rest in peace.

The Spanish national police have opened a routine investigation into the circumstances of the death. This procedural step is standard to ensure all aspects of the incident are reviewed. In the immediate aftermath, public reaction on social media turned sharply toward Owono. His Instagram account was deactivated, and several users left comments expressing frustration or sadness. One user labeled the goalkeeper a murderer.

Defender Lautaro Spatz, a teammate of Owono at FC Andorra, took to social media to offer support. He described Owono as a friend who was deeply affected by the outcome. Spatz argued that those who know the goalkeeper understand his character and the extent of his suffering. He maintained that Owono would never intentionally hurt anyone. The defender noted that while unfortunate incidents happen in football, no one could have imagined one would end with such tragic consequences. Spatz also extended condolences to the family of De Miguel and to the Tenerife club.

The investigation is ongoing as the football community processes the loss. Owono remains with his team while police continue their review of the incident. The next step in the formal process will be determined by the authorities as they gather further details.
