Leasing Hyundai's largest electric SUV costs $557 a month on an effective basis, below the $567 effective rate listed for the smaller Ioniq 5 SE. The gap reflects lease term differences: the Ioniq 9 offer runs 36 months, while the Ioniq 5 promotions run 24.
Hyundai lists the standard-range Ioniq 5 SE at $359 a month over 24 months with $4,999 due at signing. The extended-range SE RWD is advertised at $369 a month on the same terms, an effective $577. The Ioniq 9 SE lists at $419 a month over 36 months with $4,999 due at signing, producing an effective $557. Using Hyundai's payment calculator, a 36-month Ioniq 5 SE lease with $4,999 due at signing costs about $412 a month, an effective $550, $7 below the Ioniq 9 figure.
The Ioniq 5 remains the third top-selling EV in the United States through September, behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, according to sales data cited in the source. It starts at $35,250 for the 2027 standard-range SE, with an EPA-estimated range of up to 245 miles. The extended-range SE RWD starts at $37,750 with up to 318 miles of range. The Ioniq 9 begins at $58,955, about $24,000 above the base Ioniq 5 SE.
Hyundai cut Ioniq 5 prices by as much as nearly $10,000 on some trims after the $7,500 federal EV tax credit expired at the end of September last year. The base Ioniq 9 SE carries an EPA-estimated range of up to 335 miles. The Ioniq 5 seats five across two rows; the Ioniq 9 offers six- or seven-seat layouts with up to 163.54 cubic feet of passenger volume, compared with 106.5 cubic feet in the Ioniq 5.
Both models are assembled at Hyundai's Metaplant America near Savannah, Georgia. Hyundai told Electrek during a facility tour earlier this year that its electric SUVs attract new buyers to the brand at higher rates than its gas or hybrid vehicles: the Ioniq 5 recorded a 69.8% conquest rate last year and the Ioniq 9 recorded 64.3%. The Elantra N followed at 61.9%, the Palisade at 61.2%, and the Kona Electric at 60.9%.
Lease terms and pricing are listed on Hyundai's website as of Oct. 23.
