The contest for the U.S. House seat in Florida’s 27th District ended in a statistical dead heat on Tuesday night.
Election data shows Democrat Eliott Rodriguez and incumbent Republican Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar tied at 50% each. Salazar, speaking at a gathering in Key Biscayne, claimed a lead of 1,000 votes based on her internal counts. She attributed that margin to voter focus on border security and cost of living.
Salazar stated that the election results validate her position on immigration. “Every vote counts, and those people that came out and voted for me, it was immigration,” she said. She added that the party must address affordability, the economy, and gas prices while maintaining firm control over migration.
Rodriguez held a separate event in South Miami, where he described his run as a personal and professional peak. He emphasized his lack of prior political experience and his motivation to change the district’s direction. “I am a first-time candidate. I am not a politician,” he said, noting that his campaign stemmed from a desire to improve representation.
Both candidates share a background in broadcast journalism before entering public office. Salazar has occupied the district seat since 2021. The tie in the final tally leaves the outcome undecided pending a formal certification process.
